Body
Mammoplasty / Mastoplasty

These are all surgeries performed on the mammary gland. It can be breast augmentation or reduction.

Mamopexy

These are breast surgeries that aim only at the elevation of the breasts, positioning the nipple in a more appropriate place (upper third of the arms).

How to enlarge breasts?

The most common practice for enlarging the mammary glands is to introduce a silicone prosthesis. A consultation should be carried out to assess the real need for breast implant surgery. In some cases, pexy surgery (breast lift), advantageously substitutes a silicone prosthesis.

What are the types of breast implants?

Prostheses can be classified according to texture:

Smooth
Rough or textured
Polyurethane coated

As to the form:

Anatomical (in “drop of water”)
Spherical (round)

As for the profile:

Low
Moderated
High
Super tall

A consultation should be carried out to:

Definition of the most suitable prosthesis, taking into account the patient’s desire and the surgeon’s indication
Prosthesis volume to be used
Location and size of scars
Anesthesia

Where is the silicone prosthesis placed?

It can be located in the retroglandular space (below the mammary gland) or retromuscularly (below the pectoral musculature).

Are the scars noticeable?

The resulting scars are minimal (2 to 4 cm long) and may be located:

– Inframammary groove
– Areolo-nipple complex
– Axillary region

Is there any relationship between the silicone prosthesis and breast cancer?

This relationship has been completely ruled out since 2000 with studies carried out in all plastic surgery societies worldwide.

Can there be any interference from the breast prosthesis in breastfeeding?

In a well-performed surgery, the prosthesis will be inserted behind the gland or behind the musculature, therefore there will be no interference with breastfeeding.

After breastfeeding or over the years can breasts with prostheses fall out?

The whole body respects the biological nature of aging and the breastfeeding process. The tissues will become more flaccid and a glandular breast tissue may fall. The prosthesis will always remain in the same place. The correction of the fall of the breast can be performed by a pexy (check breast pexy).

What are preoperative care?

The patient should only be concerned with the desired shape and volume of the breasts. Pre-surgical care such as exams and physical evaluation in the office are mandatory. The other routine activities continue normally. Smoking should be avoided one week before surgery and alcoholic beverages may be consumed sparingly. In the immediate preoperative period (approximately 8 hours), total fasting is mandatory. The use of some medications, such as appetite suppressants, should be discontinued 72 hours before surgery.

What is the time of surgery and the type of anesthesia?

In breast augmentation surgery, which must be performed in hospitals (clinics and offices should be avoided), the surgical period lasts 2 to 3 hours. The anesthesia used in our service is local sedation with epidural block. In some cases, anesthesia may be local and in others general anesthesia may be used.

What are post-surgical care?

Breast augmentation surgery requires an early movement of the upper limbs, that is, the patient will remain in relative rest in the first 3 days, when a progressive resumption of all activities will begin. She will drive again after 10 days (up to 14 days depending on the case).

Large Breasts (Breast Hypertrophy) or

Fallen Breasts (Breast Ptosis)

What can hyperofria or breast ptosis cause?

Bulky and sagging breasts can cause discomfort, changes in the spine and even maceration of the tissue below the breasts, causing fungal infection in the skin, sometimes causing unpleasant odors and diaper rash. And in all these cases, breast plastic surgery (mastoplasty) can be done by one of the techniques, classic or conventional. Both provide good results.

Will there be any apparent scarring in breast surgery?

The scar of a breast plastic can be in the form of an anchor or inverted T, and can also take the shape of L. In very specific cases the scars will be located around the nipples, without incisions occurring below the breast.

After breast surgery, how will breastfeeding occur?

Breastfeeding will occur naturally, as there is no disconnection between the mammary glands and the nipple.

Will the breasts become smaller once they grow?

The surgery aims to remove part of the glands and breast fat. Being able to reduce the breast to a desired size, the possibility of increasing it again is very remote. Except for cases of “huge” increase in body weight.

What are the preoperative care?

The patient should only be concerned
