Common Questions

Does a plastic operation cause pain?

There is usually no pain after the different surgeries. There may be discomfort, depending on the type of operation.

In an abdomen plastic operation, for example, the patient is forced to lie down with pillows under the knees, as the thighs flexed over the abdomen decrease the tension or distension on the suture (stitches) performed (future scar).

This position, which must be maintained during the postoperative period, is somewhat uncomfortable. The ideal is to remain in the sitting position, which avoids this tension. In a nose job, what can cause discomfort is the fact of having to breathe through your mouth, since the nasal cavity tamponade in the postoperative period is mandatory in the first days.

Can there be any kind of rejection of surgeries?

This type of phenomenon only occurs when any graft is made from one person to another called (homoplastic graft). When using medical silicone (prostheses), the rejection rate is very small, but in rare cases this can occur.

Is there a risk of infection in surgery?

Nowadays with the control used in all supervised surgical centers (hospital surgical centers), this level of infection is very small. Is there a possibility that a scar will remain on the operated area?

It is necessary to clarify: there is no operation without a scar. What happens is that in plastic surgery the scars are usually disguised in strategic and little apparent places, chosen by the surgeon.

Are the results of a plastic surgery guaranteed?

In the case of surgery, no results can be guaranteed. Most of the times they are extremely satisfactory, reaching the patient’s expectations. In other cases, unusual and unexpected situations can occur, decreasing the success of the surgery. In general, we can observe that the patient, after the operation, regains self-confidence. Their behavior usually improves and some inferiority complexes disappear. Inhibitions and maladjustments due to aesthetic problems end.

What type of anesthesia is used in plastic surgery?

Most of the time, local anesthesia with sedation is used. In special cases, epidural anesthesia with or without sedation will be used. We leave general anesthesia to the minority of cases, or to cases where the patient does not want to have any contact with the surgery environment.

Am I at any risk in plastic surgery in relation to the anesthesia used?

As with all surgical procedures, there is a predetermined risk. To reduce this eventual anesthetic-surgical risk, preoperative exams and medical evaluations are requested and surgical procedures must be performed in properly equipped hospitals, away from clinics and medical offices.

Are the results of a plastic surgery guaranteed?

Plastic surgery, like all surgical branches, is not required to present results, that is, all scientific-surgical methods are used in the pre, inter and postoperative periods, so that the result is satisfactory. However, there is no guarantee of the aesthetic result. In general, the results are good. After the operation, the patient regains self-confidence in attitude and decisions. Their behavior usually changes for the better.
